Research Connection 2009, Prague

With the EGEE 4th User Forum in Catania now what feels like a distant memory, the Enabling Grids for E-sciencE road show moves to Prague for Research Connections 2009. This event celebrates the Czech Presidency of the EU, welcoming scientists, entrepreneurs and industrialists to find out more about EU funded research, with particular emphasis on the New Member States. On stage are selected EU-funded projects, including EGEE, promoting the networking and integration of research activities in Europe.

With the EGEE booth set up and ready, this left some time for exploration of Prague and an opportunity to take my own versions of the standard guide book photos (http://www.flickr.com/photos/egee/) . Having won serious Brownie points from my taxi driver by using my one word of Czech (ano=yes) I felt emboldened to explore, map in hand.

Touristic cravings satisfied for the moment, this leaves time for perusal of tomorrow’s programme over a local beer: Ondřej Liška, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Janez Potočnik, Commissioner for science and research and Jeremy Rifkin, President, Foundation on Economic Trends as keynote speakers. I’ll be looking out for the session on bringing research to the media tomorrow afternoon – hints and tips always welcome here!
