During phase one of the Discover Dengue Drugs project on World Community Grid, the researchers have identified several thousand molecules from about three million compounds that might have potential for inhibiting flaviviruses, which include dengue fever, West Nile virus, hepatitis C, yellow fever and others. We have just launched phase two which will use CHARMM, a molecular dynamics program, to further screen these candidates and select the best for laboratory testing. The project involves a cascade of serial stages of processing which will require a few weeks before the pipleline of work is full. Thus members will only be receiving occasional work units for a few weeks until we get to the last serial stage where the bulk of the work resides. You can read more about all of this at the WorldCommunityGrid.org web site.
We also launched a new facebook application which lets members join World Community Grid without leaving facebook: http://apps.facebook.com/worldcommunitygrid/ This should make it easier to spread the news about World Community Grid and has already boosted our membership, which is now over 500,000 members! Thanks to all of you that are contributing!
