While walking to the conference this morning, I had my first “I’M DEFINITELY NOT IN CHICAGO ANYMORE” moment. Approaching campus, I noticed hundreds of bicycles left unlocked—many outside of a rack--in front of a huge “PARK YOUR BIKE IN THE RACK!” sign. If this were the University of Chicago in Hyde Park, the first unlocked bike would have been history before its owner had time to tie their shoes. There wouldn’t be any left for the police to confiscate—which they undoubtedly would.
