Earth-shaking films

More news on how computing is helping earthquake researchers across Taiwan, and Asia. We spoke to Professor Li Zhao from the Institute of Earth Sciences here at Academia Sinica about Shakemovies, which are very useful (and pretty) visualisations of seismic events. Professor Zhao is hoping that the power of volunteer computing can be used to help create these shake maps and movies when an earthquake happens through the initiative Shakemovie@Home.

Many thanks to Amit Chourasia of SDSC for giving us permission to use a Shakemovie of the Puente Hills in this video. You can find more of these visualisations on the SDSC website here.
