In Taipei, during
the International Symposium on Grids and Clouds (ISGC), at Academia Sinica,
from Sunday the 17th to Friday the 22nd of March 2013,
many sessions have been dedicated to the European Middleware Initiative (EMI)
services, with particular regards to middleware data management, security and
cloud/virtualisation. Finally, a
tutorial on the latest EMI release (codename: Monte Bianco) has been provided.
Over the last 10 years, dCache has evolved into one of
the most prominent storage technologies in Europe, with a wide spectrum of
scientific communities using dCache. With the increasing use of dCache in the Asian Pacific region and the great
success of our annual workshops in Europe, dCache.org and the German dCache
user support group were happy to announce the first Asian Pacific dCache
Workshop at the ISGC'13.
Specifically for data, it started already on Sunday
with workshops including an installation tutorial and master classes on dCache, continuing on Monday with the
Disk Pool Manager (DPM) and on Wednesday with a report on the progress of the
EMI project Dynamic Federations (namely
storage aggregations using open tools and protocols).
During the data
tutorials, the latest findings and future plans of the data management product
teams have been presented, among others, to a large Asian representation
(Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and China). Participants were very proactive
in learning in-depth knowledge of the new system implementations, as well as in
receiving practical hands-on experience. The same, proactive, mood was present during
the EMI 3 tutorial on Thursday, attended by site administrators and end-users from
various locations of Asia and Oceania, like Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan,
Pakistan, China and Australia. Participants were eager to know the latest news
from the last EMI 3 release, showing also interest on how to configure EMI
services.
