Innovative technologies for grid computing end users

Pasquale Pagano, from CNR - ISTI is presenting us a technology designed for grid computing end users. The aim is to provide a graphical interface, helping user in their tasks.

Ever wondered how astronomers know what stars are made of?

Sarunas Mikolaitis presents new software from BalticGridII and the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy of Vilnius University. The software helps scientists to analyse the chemical composition of stars by allowing them to investigate and model synthetic "spectra".

Called SYNTSPEC, the application uses grid computing to power its massive computing needs.

Enabling Desktop Grids for e-SciencE

Tsjerk Wassenaar introduces the benefits of the e-nmr grid platform for structural biology, a user-friendly interface that allows scientists to easily access grid computing resources to power simulations of protein structure.

Edgars Znots from the University of Latvia explains "CopS" -- the Complex Comparison of Protein Structures -- a technology that uses the grid power of BalticGrid to map relationships between proteins.

WISDOM interface for easy grid-powered disease research

The WISDOM project has been doing great work on grid-powered anti-malaria drug discovery. Now, thanks to a new interface, it's even easier for biologists to access the power of computer grids. The system works by allowing biologists to select a series of "ligand" molecules and simulate their ability to "dock" with disease proteins. Presented by Jean Salzemann of CNRS IN2P3.
